China is on track to surpass 1bn mobile connections in Q1 of 2012, with market penetration currently estimated at 72%.
The latest data from Wireless Intelligence shows that China ended 2011 on 973.7m connections, an increase of around 16% year-on-year.
The growth has largely been driven by 3G connections, which surpassed 200m in Q4 and accounted for 22% of the total by year-end.
In 2011 3G accounted for 80% of new connections in China, an estimated 26.8m out of a total of 34.2m.

Yesterday it was confirmed that Kodak has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in New York; the final chapter in a long and painful fall from market dominance in the 1980s.
This humiliating 'Kodak moment' came about largely because the camera brand failed to embrace digital technology.

Foursquare has added another new feature to its desktop service – restaurant menus.
The update, which uses technology from start-up SinglePlatform, adds 13m food items from 250,000 restaurants in major US cities.

Mobiles and tablets accounted for 12% of all paid search clicks in the UK during December, according to new data from Marin Software.
This represents a 49% increase in click share as a percentage of the total since October.
The Quarterly UK Online Advertising Report found that, over the same period, spend share of mobile and tablet devices increased by 29% to a 7.5% share of overall search spend.

Doritos’ Super Bowl ads will be created by the public again this year, with the overall winner chosen by a Facebook vote.
The Pepsico brand has used user generated ads during the Super Bowl several times since 2007, and the ‘Crash The Super Bowl’ commercials have proven to be extremely popular.
Doritos ads came joint first and fourth in the 2011 USA Today Super Bowl Ad Meter.
