The SEO world is abuzz following the release of Penguin 2.0, though there have been several updates to the algorithm since it launched in April 2012.
The release took place on 22 May, 2013 with additional changes and tweaks likely to take place over the summer months. You can watch the video for yourself below, but, as well as investing in quality content, one of the key phrases that was of considerable interest was this from Matt Cutts:
We are trying to detect when someone is an authority in a specific space and trying to make those authorities rank higher.
So the question that marketers need to ask themselves is ‘How do you create an Authority brand online?’ It’s time online marketers replaced this question over their traditional ‘how do I get to the top of Google?’
Create an authority website, full of interesting content that your target customers want to read and share and you will be rewarded by Google. But not just by Google, but by your customers too.

Can an entire marketing department get writer’s block? If it can happen to great novelists, then it can happen to you and your team.
At this point, many of us are familiar with the content marketing deluge. It’s increasingly difficult to generate an audience for blogs, tweets, and Facebook posts.
You can be the most creative and compelling writer, but if you’re not consistently churning out authentic content, your thought leadership presence will be zilch.

We all get excited when we have something new to show off, making sure everyone notices and mentions the haircut you've just paid a small fortune for, or strategically leaving your shiny new phone on the corner of your desk so everyone who passes can coo accordingly.
When you've finally jumped through the necessary hoops to get the go-ahead for a piece of content, is it always the best idea to open the floodgates to let everyone see what you've made right away?

One of the B2B roundtables at this year’s Digital Cream London event focused on marketing automation, the findings of which have just been released in our free-to-access Marketing Automation Trends Briefing, sponsored by Oracle Eloqua.
According to Econsultancy calculations, major marketing automation vendors have secured more than $150 million in additional venture capital funding in the last few months.
Coupled with the consolidation spree we’ve witnessed lately, the market shows strong growth and potential, with some analysts predicting 50% industry revenue increase in 2013.

The British Museum has released a decent app that showcases the current ‘Life and Death in Pompeii and Herculaneum’ exhibition.
Hopes are that people who can’t get to the museum will download the app and experience the exhibition at home.
I discuss the app (made by Apadmi) below in the context of the British Museum's digital stock.
Testing the market and getting experience with an exhibition app build is undoubtedly a smart move, and a tricky undertaking.

A recent report has found that 96% of Australian marketers use content marketing - which is higher than figures seen in North America and the UK - yet only 29% consider themselves to be “very effective” or “effective” at doing so.
The first ever content marketing in Australia report, compiled by the Content Marketing Institute (CMI) and ADMA, has finally been released and it sheds some interesting light on how this particular marketing tool is used in Australia.

You probably haven't heard of Explain Like I'm Five. Only about 250,000 people have.
‘ELI5’ is a subreddit, a stream on the content behemoth Reddit. And it's an amazing example of community in action, one that's been taken to a new level by the people running Reddit recently, with a small move that should be front of mind for any brand attempting to build a community.

I was prompted to write this post after a Twitter conversation was initiated by Simon Penson by asking:
“How long is too long for a blog post before people switch off? 1000 words, 2000 words? Trying so hard here to cut this one off...?!”
You can follow the strands of the discussion yourselves by clicking the link above, but the general consensus was that longer blog posts can work, provided that they’re a) interesting, and b) presented well with clear formatting.
But, this post is going to be about more than length, although that is certainly part of it.

Whether you’re creating a blog, developing a content-marketing campaign or writing for social media, hard-hitting content is the key to success.
But how can you achieve it?
Sometimes, the idea of content is better than the execution. The problem isn’t with what you're saying, but the way you’re saying it. Sharpen that up and your content springs to life.
