Amazon has extended its controversial patent on "1-Click" shopping to include items bought as gifts for others.
The original 1999 patent allowed customers to purchase products with just one click after entering their address and credit card details for upfront storage. but drew fire including a boycott when Amazon sued rival Barnes & Noble for using a similar method.

Amazon has expanded its investment in Chinese Internet company Joyo.com, which the company bought for $75m in 2004.
Chief Executive Jeff Bezos told the Wall Street Journal that Amazon would invest more capital into China, where it trails behind its biggest local competitor, Dangdang.com.

Zlio, a French startup which lets users set up their own DIY shops, has suffered a blow, as e-commerce giant Amazon has stopped Zlio shopkeepers from listing its products.
Interestingly, this ban only applies to the US, and Zlio shopkeepers in Europe will still be able to list Amazon's products. Zlio users set up their own DIY shops and earn affiliate commission on the products they sell.

Amazon has confirmed plans to open a music download store later this year, offering all songs free of DRM copyright protection.
The much-anticipated move will see Amazon offering music from EMI, which recently cut a deal with Apple to sell its music DRM-free through the iTunes store.

Started as a hobby site nine years ago, dpreview specialises in independent reviews of digital cameras and accessories, as well as discussions forums and buyers’ guides.

US online shopping gateway Mpire has launched a number of widgets designed to generate revenue for Amazon and eBay affiliates.
The widgets, when displayed on a user's web page, chart trends across a range of retail product categories, each allowing site visitors to make a purchase that is linked to a publisher's affiliate account.

Amazon looks to be taking on Apple's iTunes by opening its own music download store, with rumours suggesting the service will be DRM-free.
According to The Independent, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has been in discussions with the four major labels to persuade them to allow their music to be sold without DRM protection.

Online retail giant Amazon has posted a 32% rise in sales for the first quarter to just over $3bn (£1.5bn).
The company said pre-tax profits had risen from $96m (£48m) to $144m (£72m) year on year, but expects sales and profit growth to slow in the second quarter.
