Web searches to kill window-shopping?

Europe’s high streets could eventually be devoid of banks, travel agents and mobile phone shops as consumers turn to the web for research, according to ACNielsen.

A study by the analyst group found consumers used window-shopping less than the net when choosing their purchases, except when it came to clothing and accessories.

Witty vs descriptive headlines - what works best?

The Google Pony Danny Sullivan has fired off a few rounds at the authors over at Google Blog, who habitually use non-descriptive headlines such as ‘Greetings, Earthlings!’ and, our favourite: ‘Yes, you can have a pony’.

As an expert in SEO you’d think Danny’s beef would be linked to a lack of keywords in titles, but this isn’t in fact the problem...

Thousands of holidaymakers duped by fake sites

Scammers have fooled thousands of British consumers into paying for non-existent summer holidays online, the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) has warned.

The Metropolitan Police has launched an investigation into at least five UK-based websites pretending to sell package holidays to European destinations.

Why isn’t ebookers top of Google for a search on ‘ebookers’?

While doing some project-based research last week I noticed that ebookers isn’t on the first page in Google for a search on its own brand name. Ouch.

The travel group is currently paying Google for an Adwords ad, to achieve the brand visibility it needs, but it is puzzling as to why an established dotcom with many thousands of inbound links is failing to capture the number one spot for its own brand.
