Yahoo! aims to foster Mail mash-ups

Yahoo! is planning to give free access to code for its Mail service in a bid to encourage mash-ups and independent application development.

The move, which will happen later this year, was announced as part of a ‘Yahoo! Hack Day’ aimed at helping programmers to build apps using the portal’s various services.

Kiko buyer revealed to be Tucows

The mysterious buyer of online calendar Kiko has stepped out of the shadows, revealing himself to be Elliot Noss, the CEO of Tucows.

Tucows, a software and applications aggregator, paid about a quarter of a million dollars to pick up Kiko, which was offloaded via eBay after the founders became distracted and started working on new projects (ok, Google Calendar had something to do with this too).

So why did they buy it?

Google today launched Google Apps for your Domain  - a set of hosted services aimed at small and medium businesses.

Just as we were getting used to Google as a new advertising powerhouse with MSN pushed to the fringes, the search behemoth reminds us that it wants an even larger slice of the action, this time carved from more familiar Microsoft territory.
