Mobile networks 'mull new-build search engine'

European mobile phone networks could start their own mobile search service as they consider how to increase revenue from search advertising, according to a report.

The companies will use the 3GSM World Congress, the world's largest mobile industry exhibition and conference, in Barcelona next week to consider a joint initiative aimed at replacing lost revenue from falling access costs with that from on-the-move ads.

Yahoo! to deliver search and ads to 3 customers

Yahoo! has signed a deal with mobile phone network 3 to carry its Go 2.0 mobile service on 3G handsets.

The portal announced the new version of its internet search and content application at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Tuesday; it lets users search for pages, directions, listings, news and more from a single interface.

Mobile users 'annoyed' by text ads

Mobile marketers have been warned they must ditch intrusive SMS ads in favour of text-message coupons, quiet banner ads and ad-supported widgets if their straight-to-phone messages are to succeed.

A report published by technology research firm Forrester after Christmas found that 79% of mobile users surveyed are "annoyed" by the prospect of receiving advertising on their handset.

Mobile video entrant aims to rock US vote

First-time voters at next week's US mid-term elections are being urged to become election observers for the day by posting video from poll scenes to the web using mobile phones.

With over 500 seats being contested across the country, youth social action movement YouthNoise has partnered with new video sharing website Veeker to solicit "veeks", or "video peeks", via email over MMS from polling stations, rallies, protests and parties.
