Blog growth dips as Technorati tackles splog problem

Techborati Technorati’s latest State of the Blogosphere report shows continuing growth in the number of active blogs, with over 57 million blogs currently being tracked.

However, growth in blog numbers has slowed slightly since the last quarter, something Technorati put down to more effective measures at limiting the number of spam blogs (aka 'splogs') listed. This is a good thing.

Customers punish offline stores for bad online experiences

Research in the US has revealed the extent to which frustrated online shoppers hold grudges against online retailers and their physical counterparts.

The research, by US internet performance tracking company Gomez, reveals that 65% of online shoppers would stop or reconsider shopping at a company’s physical store if they had a poor online experience.

Google launches new AdWords testing tool

Google AdWords has released a new website optimiser tool for advertisers to test their landing pages, allowing them to choose the best options for their advertising campaigns.

Google announced the new service at the Emetrics Summit in Washington DC yesterday, and it will initially be available for testing to a limited number of advertisers.

Google has expanded its ‘Gadgets’ programme by allowing its mini-web applications to be added to independent websites and pages.

The company has launched a gallery where users can browse through the 1000-plus widgets, which include games, calendars and weather reports.

Sites clash with measurement firms

A "cacaphony of complaints" from web publishers has prompted the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) to put pressure on the industry's two major metrics firms to improve their methodologies and transparency, reports AdWeek .

The magazine says several top publishers have expressed doubts over the unique user and traffic data being provided by Nielsen//NetRatings and comScore Media Metrix, both of which are preparing to be audited.
