Why Twitter's API news is madness

Twttr

With Twitter's changes to its API, announced yesterday, the API as we knew it is effectively dead.

Here's why it's a bad idea...

I'm all for brevity, but it's a complex issue.

Twitter totally snookered themselves by offering such an open API that they generated their own competitors. By comparison Facebook never made that mistake. Now they can't protect themselves without looking like a bully.

I think the statement that 'the API as we knew it is dead' is an exaggeration at this point though.

The changes the author laments affect developers. Twitter has been transparent about its desire to deliver value to users who generate revenue - developers are clearly seen as potential competitors.

I understand what Twitter's API is, but this article didnt expand beyond its opinionated title.

You know when you have a good idea but it doesn't quite come off? That...

Thanks for the comments guys, think I might write this up again but elaborating a bit more on each feature that the community created. Could be more valuable!
