It can't be surprising to anyone with a smart phone (or has been on any form of public transportation) that mobile gaming is on the rise. Developers are scrambling to get the next big hit like Draw Something as the mobile and social game giants, Rovio and Zynga, are continuing to dominate the market.
According to a new infographic by businessdegree.net, more than $12 billion was generated by mobile gaming in 2011 with 34% of the top grossing apps in the app store using the freemium model. Once someone is hooked, they'll continue to spend a few dollars to continue to enhance their play. On average freemium games make $12.92 a month per user.

Who doesn't love a good success story and Draw Something is a perfect example of this. We first reported on it's phenomenal growth of 20 million downloads in five weeks and then saw as Zynga acquired OMGPOP, the maker of the app, for $200 million.
The team at Couchbase has put together an infographic showing the progression of Draw Something's growth and the number of servers it took to keep it going.

Today, Facebook has agreed to buy photo-sharing site, Instagram, for a reported $1 billion in cash and stock in its biggest purchase to date.
As Facebook have been focused on sharing photos since its inception, this isn't a surprising move but it may have been unexpected for those who use Instagram as a separate service. At the moment, according to Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, the Instagram community shouldn't be worried as it will remain its own separate entity.

With the adoption of new ad formats and further penetration of tablets, the growth of paid search is on the up. According to IgnitionOne's new online report on Global Online Advertising, the first quarter of 2012 showed a 30.3% year on year growth in search advertising.
The comprehensive report outlines some of the biggest areas of growth in this area including targeted paid search spend, Yahoo/ Bing market share and an increase of mobile search activity, especially from tablets.

Badoo, the social network dedicated to chatting, flirting and meeting people in your area, is officially launching in the US this month. Though it already has six million members registered in the States, the London based company hasn't tackled this overseas market until now.
Instead of hitting multiple cities with its launch, the company has focused on New York as its first city to tackle. It is taking an integrated marketing approach with a campaign that kicked off last week in Soho with a 1,000-person photo shoot to help people achieve their ultimate profile picture.
