There is plenty of speculation around that Facebook is preparing for an IPO, which has been fueled by Facebook advertising for a Stock Administration Manager.
In addition, Mark Zuckerberg's sister Randi Jayne, who also works for Facebook, has recorded a video trashing the competition. That this has been taken down at Facebook's request has added to the IPO speculation.

Google has bought out yet another company; this time the online giant is buying Postini, which provides on-demand communications security and compliance solutions.
Google is paying $625m (£310m) for Postini, which has 35,000 businesses and 10m users worldwide.

Pot Noodle has launched a user-generated advertising campaign hosted on YouTube.
Owner Unilever has invited users to submit videos of themselves eating the snack in unusual places - for each video submitted, the company will send out 12 Pot Noodles.

Social network platform Ning has raised $44m (£22m) in a Series C round of funding, one of the largest social network funding rounds so far.
The Ning platform allows users to design, mashup and build web apps, including social networks. Some 73,650 social networks have been created on Ning's platform since it was launched in October 2004.

More than half of internet users believe that brands should be engaging with them online, though brands need to play by the rules of new media, according to a survey.
The survey, Effective Online PR: Helping brands succeed through new media, was conducted by Shiny Red. More than 606 people were surveyed via an online questionnaire on Shiny Media's blog network.

Nominet has registered its six millionth .uk domain name, with the national country code attracting a growing number of domestic companies.
The registry said a YouGov survey of 2,324 internet users showed people were six times more likely to enter a .uk domain name than a .com address when using a search engine.

Agency marketers believe that brands and marketing departments are guilty of playing it too safe, the consequence being that campaigns are weaker than they were two years ago.
This is the finding of a study by Blue Skies Marketing, which questioned 599 marketing, PR, creative design and account management professionals.

Wikipedia's audience continues to grow rapidly, with the collaborative encyclopedia having added around 20m monthly visitors over the past 12 months.
Figures from Nielsen/NetRatings show that Wikipedia had 46.8m unique visitors in May 2007, a 72% increase on June 2006. In addition, the site topped the news and information category every month this year.

The Foundation for Free Information Infrastructure (FFII), a software rights advocacy group, has offered a EUR 2,500 prize to whoever can devise the best campaign against Microsoft's attempts to seek standardisation for its Office file formats.
The FFII objects to the Redmond, Washington, software giant's attempts to gain International Standardisation Organisation (ISO) approval for its Office OpenXML file format.
