Overseas businesses may soon be able to register domain names with foreign characters.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is meeting in Puerto Rico this week to discuss allowing characters with accents or in entirely different scripts to be added to the internet system.

Many internet radio services will go silent today in protest at plans to increase royalty fees paid by web broadcasters.
Many US web broadcasters have protested that the royalty hikes, which will be backdated to January 2006, will put them out of business, as well as reducing the choice availble for listeners.

Plaxo has relaunched its 'smart address book' service, which lets users share data between address and calendar programs from Microsoft, Google, AOL and others.
Plaxo 3.0, in addition to simplifying the synchronisation process, is now available in in seven languages, including French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, and Spanish.

Increasing online spend helped the UK ad market grow 3% to £4.2bn in the first quarter, the highest Q1 increase since 2005, according to new Advertising Association (AA) figures.
Only the outdoor, cinema, and internet sectors saw an increase in spending, with the web ad market growing 42% from the first quarter of 2006.

Online PR firm webitpr has devised a 'social media news release' - a press release specifically designed for the internet.
The webitpr release claims to be the first of its kind to be released in the UK, and was inspired by a template produced by last year by Todd Defren at US PR firm SHIFT Communications.
