2 questions I'd be interested in getting your feedback on:
1. Do you think it is true that average CPM rates in the UK will continue to fall as more sites become available and to come more in line with the US? Or will more targeted advertising and rich media ads allow CPM rates to be maintained at current levels? How can an online media owner ensure they get the best CPM rates (targeting, rich media, niche markets..)?
2. At what point should ad sales be taken in house versus outsourced to the likes of Doubleclick, RealMedia, 24/7 etc.? Recently many big companies have gone in-house. Some articles suggest you need around 10m page impressions a month for it to be financially sensible to go in-house.
Econsultancy's Ad Serving Buyer's Guide is an invaluable source for those investigating the market for ad serving solutions, with profiles of 15 suppliers and detailed information about the trends and issues affecting the online display advertising sector. The 158-page report also contains useful advice for those seeking a suitable supplier and best practice and tips for identifying the right ad serving solution to meet your needs.
The Online Advertising Survey Report, produced in association with the Rubicon Project, is a useful overview of the online display advertising environment. It contains information about spending trends, the use of ad networks, types of targeting and use of data. The research also examines the impact of real-time bidding and the increasingly important role played by online advertising exchanges, demand-side platforms (DSPs) and trading desks.
