Lateral, the award winning digital marketing agency, has created a new b2b web site for Cityspace, the UK’s leading urban digital networks provider (www.cityspace.com).
Since 1996 Cityspace has developed and deployed interactive touchscreen terminals which deliver free email, job finding services, news and more on the UK’s high streets. Over time Cityspace has expanded its range of services and the audiences it delivers to. Whilst its network of i+ Points touchscreen terminals has expanded to almost 300 locations, the company now also offers real time public transport information services and StreetNet, a wide-area outdoor wireless broadband service. However the content and structure of the existing Cityspace website did not allow for these changes.
Content within the new website, has focused on four key areas:
1 - Towns and cities communication needs: aimed at Local Government within the UK and abroad
2 - Transport: for public transport authorities
3 - Mobile Operators: offering wireless broadband and increased voice and data coverage for 2G and 3G networks.
4 - Content Partners: helping potential partners understand the benefits of Cityspace’s services.
Easy-to-use, contextual navigation has been designed so that all content is never more than three clicks away. The site has achieved level two as defined by Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) – specifically meaning that the site is accessible for every interested party.
Visitors can now register to receive the latest information about Cityspace via a newsletter, which is sub-divided into the four key areas allowing users to select which service related news they wish to receive;
“We needed to upgrade our site to reflect the break-neck speed of our product development,” says Nick O’Connor, marketing director at Cityspace. “Lateral understood our requirements instinctively, both strategically and creatively and has delivered a fresh, accessible site with loads of personality. It adds value to our services and continues to support our existing clients as well as attracting new ones.”
“We wanted to make this site accessible to reflect the brand and culture of Cityspace, which champions ‘access for all’ to information and communication via internet based services, effectively bridging the digital divide,” says Robert Hunt, senior designer at Lateral. “The key challenge was not to compromise the quality of the design for the sake of usability. Lateral has streamlined the site architecture and opted to use images of real people to give the site a human, welcoming face, and to emphasise the personal relationship between consumers and Cityspace’s services,” continued Hunt.
“We used the site as a sales tool during trial testing, which proved to be an articulate and powerful testimonial for both staff and clients – so even before launching, the new site has already produced some valuable results!”, concludes Nick O’Connor.
