I have noticed that an agency seems to be interlinking amongst its clients and indeed its own sites.

    For example

check out the footers at the bottom of these sites

    http://www.diadora.com.au/

    http://www.godfreys.com.au/

    http://www.lifefitness.com.au/

All of them seem to be from the 'SEO company' that 'did' their SEO. In fact all their clients seem to have this 'seo agency' anchor text embedded in their footers.

I am not sure about the value of this method (linking from the agency to the clients in a circular reference)

    any thoughts?

i have seen and used this kind of method. Essentially by linking to other sites you build a reputatuion as a trusted/relevant site - it also helps with indexing to an extent

As a user journey it has little/no purpose whatsoever - it is purely an SEO tactic

    Does that make sense?

They are clearly using optimised anchor text to link to their pages - I would say this was a little cheeky of them!

(Yes, we do link to our website from clients but only by our company name.)

Even high quality SEO companies place attribution links in their client footers - with their client's permission of course. Typically, they reciprocate by putting a link to their client site in their portfolio page.

What is cheeky here is that the SEO company has placed multiple links in the footer. In fact it links back to no less than 7 pages on the SEO company site - defintely a bit cheeky!

This is a good thing for SEO company. If the SEO company achieves a good Google first page position and uses its name on the footer of the client, this is a demonstration of its SEO service power.

p.s. these links dont have any weight in terms of backlinks for the SEO company.

I think it makes the company look a bit cheap to be honest, and I suspect those dark grey links on a black background risk triggering Google's spam alerts and damaging their trust score. Definitely steer clear of this one.

Question? I thought a 1 way link to you was viewed as having value especially if from a site with PR and with relevant anchor text BUT if you have a link back to the site then Google views this as a reciprocal link with now value. What is the view?
