Freeserve and Vodafone have announced what could be seen as a landmark in the charging-for-content quest.
As mentioned in a couple of my recent posts, it combines the sale of pay-to-view content to users with the 'incremental micropayment mindset' people are comfortable with on their mobile phones.
Freeserve subscribers will be able to purchase dedicated content in the run-up to Lennox Lewis' world title fight in S Africa on 22 April. Content will include edited daily highlights of each day’s training, including sparring fights, interviews with Lewis and his training team and visits from high profile stars from the world of sport, music and politics, including a scheduled meeting with Nelson Mandela.
The cost is £1 per day per device. The charge will be billed to their Vodafone monthly bill, making use of Vodafone's payment technology and avoiding the need to key in credit card details, etc.
Should be fascinating to see how users react to it. Would you pay a quid for it??? Know about any other similar experiments going on???
