    We're building a database of words for a swear word filter in software. Anyone know a universal list of swear words?

    avatar Depends how universal you want it?

    Most bulletin board and forum programs come with such a filter e.g. phpBB has one called the badwords filter. Most are only US/UK english though. You should be able to extract one from there.

    A quick trawl round google will also show you that a list of words isn't enough, it needs some clever pattern matching to stop people doing daft things like inserting HTML half way through a word or using smilies instead of the letter 'O'.
