We like to try and practice what we preach at Econsultancy. We like to experiment on ourselves and publish the results — good or bad. So we do projects which we’d class as somewhat “experimental”, possibly a little rough around the edges (e.g. not properly tested across all browsers etc.), quite probably not supported in the long term, but there as a showcase at the time.
Below are some of those more experimental “Labs” projects which we hope you find interesting.
Project Arachnid
We called this experiment Project Arachnid because we imagined being like (marketing) spiders at the centre of a real-time information web. This showcases what is possible with HTML5 and visualizes the volume and value of traffic to the Econsultancy website in real time.
Red Friday
We ran a marketing experiment called Red Friday — so called because we have Black Friday, Cyber Monday etc so we thought we’d do our own Christmas promotion. It was essentially a subscriber-get-subscriber discount offer with some cash prizes to be won. However, we added a “gamification” / “social” twist as we showed a live leaderboard of who had sold what. It worked very well — visit the Red Friday archive site to see more details.
