Skype founders Janus Friis and Niklas Zennstrom are working on a secretive project which will see them compete with YouTube in the online video market.
The website, currently under the working title of the Venice Project, will aim to combine the video sharing of YouTube with the added attraction of professionally produced TV and video content.
The Venice Project is currently in negotiations with various TV and media companies for them to place content on the network. As with YouTube, users will be able to post their own videos on the website.
The site is intended to be free to use so, as with TV, much of the revenue will come from advertising.
Users will need to download and install a piece of software, which will then allow them to view high quality full screen video as well as being able to pause, rewind and fast forward the video.
Unlike YouTube, the video will be streamed to users’ PCs rather than downloaded, thus making it harder for the content to be copied and illegally distributed.
The Venice Project has been testing its software already, but will expand this dramatically by the middle of November.

There are many competitors out there that have tried to interrupt the momentum that Youtube has been building but it doesn't seem like anyone will be able to knock them off the top spot unless they self implode somehow.
