BT pioneers new ‘spam-buster’ system

BT hopes to take a lead in the battle against the scourge of spam on the internet by introducing a new system designed to filter out spam before it reaches their customer’s PCs.

BT’s Content Forensics system, devised by StreamShield Networks, will scan millions of emails every day, alerting them to the location of spam related problems on its network.

Social networkers expose themselves to hackers

A new US study has shown the risks that surfers are taking when using social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook.

The study, conducted by enterprise IT management company CA and the National Cyber Security Alliance, reveals that users of such sites are vulnerable to hackers and identity thieves.

David Miliband on wikis and UGC

This summer saw David Miliband, secretary of state for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, launching the government’s first experiment with wikis, only for the move to be scrapped after the “accidental or malicious editing or removal of material” by pranksters.

But the wiki is now open again, albeit with tighter moderation and registration policies, and Miliband has promised to continue testing new ways to engage with the public via the web.
