I read a lot of posts by SEO professionals (and wannabes) that there is little value in the PR Google assigns to a page. There is no doubt that it help determine position, but it's not as important factor as the quantity / quality of backlinks, for example.

Also, is PR something that only web professionals are particularly preoccupied with. If I am not mistaken the PR bar is not set as a default on Google Toolbar, which probably means that most people will not see it. Not a good thing for a trustmark.

What's the general view on PR?

    hi, Lawrence, how are you?

There is no doubt that [PageRank] help determine position, but it's not as important factor as the quantity / quality of backlinks, for example.

PageRank itself is a vague, simple indicatorof the quality & quantity of backlinks to a particular page. If you are monitoring the backlinks themselves & their effect on your rankings/traffic, then you're already doing more than the visible PageRank will tell you.

The pagerank you see on the google toolbar (or any other pagerank checker) is always out of date - they update it infrequently.

To be honest, I hear less & less about pagerank, though I have to confess I check it occasionally for my sites.

    I hope that helps!
