    Hello

I am looking for a bit of advice. I am in the process of setting up a  business to showcase the UK's leading designers, craft makers and artists. I am looking for an e-commerce platform similar to that used by Bouf.com or Folksy.com and not sure where to start.

I have been recommended Actinic but unsure if this will have the functionality to allow multiple users to upload products information etc.

Any advice on possible sofetware and likely cost would be very welcome.

    Thanks

    Rob

    Hi Rob,

If I understand you correctly, you're looking to create a marketplace type site such as the websites you mentioned, or another example etsy.com

Actinic wouldn't be the best platform to base this on, you need a platform which allows your customers to log in and manage their products, orders etc.

In fact most ecommerce platforms are set up to allow the user to mange their own products but not set up to support a marketplace based site.

You would need to start with a solid, robust ecommerce platform and have a lot of bespoke work done.

Our platform Cascade would be an example, or possibly Magento. Either way you would need to get a considerable amount of customisation done and unless you are careful the project could end up being quite expensive.

    Hi Rob

Obviously you should have a look through our E-commerce Platforms Buyer's Guide 2010 ;)

I guess a big decision you'll need to make is whether you just want the tech platform or how much you want in the way of 'service' i.e. someone else to actually do the design and build, project management etc?

If you need a lot of help then it might be better to look for a good e-commerce agency or consultancy rather than a platform. Some agencies have their own platforms, others are 'agnostic' and can help advise on the choices.

Again, plenty of E-commerce specialists in our Supplier Directory to look through.

    Regards

    Ashley

I just noticed this thread and wanted to correct some misinformation given here.

Actinic Business Plus and Actinic Enterprise both allow multiple users to log in, update product information and process orders. Neither requires any customisation or bespoke work to create a fully functioning ecommerce site.

It's good to get independent recommendation(s) for any product, but for accurate information about the features it's always a good idea to contact the vendor IMO.
