Microsoft has reportedly earmarked $500m for a massive global advertising campaign to support the launch of its new Vista operating system.
In what will be its "most aggressive launch ever", Advertising Age said the Redmond, Washington, giant is launching a campaign across 20 countries that aims for "6.6bn impressions in its first few months".

A study by Jakob Nielsen has shown that many etailers are failing to realise the potential of wishlists and gift vouchers.
The report, called E-commerce User Experience: Wishlists, Gift Certificates, and Gift Giving in E-Commerce, found that, despite highlighting usability issues, certificates and wishlists are excellent ways to attract visitors to a site.

Mobile pay-per-click advertising intermediary AdMob has delivered 1bn ads to mobile devices in its first year, according to the company.
The firm, which numbers former ZagMe marketing director Russell Buckley as a managing director, launched in January 2006 as an equivalent of Google AdSense for mobile.

A video purporting to show users how to become a tester for a forthcoming TV service to be launched by Google has split the web over claims it is a hoax.
A clip posted to YouTube by tech tutorial channel Infinite Solutions on Friday told viewers they could access high-quality US network TV shows as part of a private test by repeatedly logging in and out of Gmail.

Google has made some alterations to its algorithm in order to reduce the effect of 'Google bombing'. This means that a search for 'miserable failure' will no longer lead to President Bush's homepage at The White House.
However, the change has not dealt with all these Google bombs. For instance, a search for 'French military victories' on Google will still return spoof pages for the first three results.

Microsoft chairman Bill Gates has predicted that growing uptake of online video content and broadband TV will revolutionise viewing habits within the next five years.
The ability of web-based TV services to offer users what they want to watch, when they want to watch it, rather than being slaves to TV schedules, will make all the difference, Gates told the World Economic Forum in Davos.
