Online spending rose by 42% on ‘Black Friday' - the day after Thanksgiving in the US - according to figures from analysis group comScore.
Total US online spending for the first 24 days of November reached $8.31bn, a 23% increase over the same period in 2005. Black Friday saw a 42% increase on 2005's figures.

California-based online ad exchange AdECN is preparing to launch in the UK as part of geographical expansion plans.
The company is in talks with several of the UK’s main online ad sales houses and is expected to start operating during the early part of next year.

A new study has claimed that the social networking boom could eventually threaten the dominance of traditional lenders.
A study by the Social Futures Observatory think-tank found that many consumers would consider borrowing through online ‘social lending’ communities rather than high street banks and other traditional lenders.

In a discussion on Webmaster World on Wednesday, Google’s AdWords advisor denied that the company uses information gathered from its conversion tracking and analytics data to determine bids for keywords.
Back in June, Google introduced changes to its algorithm which determines ad position and cost, this placed greater importance on the quality of landing pages.

The UK's Conservative party has launched an online campaign against consumer debt, featuring an odious overspending character they dub "the inner tosser".
Created by Karmarama, the Sort-it website includes money-saving tips and a mini manifesto on fiscal responsibility. A short video features a flash, suited American encouraging an English shopper to overspend on consumer items from shoes to a sports car.
