Hi, Does anyone have any experience of optimising websites for SEO traffic for different countries? Are there any considerations I should take into account? We are running a large website translated into six languages. We take into account cultural differences during the translation process but I am reviewing if we should be managing SEO differently between the languages/countries. Any thoughts, experiences would be gratefully received. Best regards Richard Avis

The fundamental for on-page optimization can be used across the board for all markets , but for the off-page linking, you need to get from the particular market that will strongly support your link weight. Hosting and local domain is also important to consider as well. For doing the optimization for international market, you can't do just translation , you need to determine the localization strategy in order to attract links which still important for ranking factor.

adding multiple language options in one global website is okie, though to target your services/ products in different countries will surely needs you the country specific websites with the country specific domains hosted on colocated servers, that way you will be achieving the 100% of it, and you will be reaching in no time to them, thanks Jain

Straight from experience
We run our website in 4 countries (France, Germany etc) but have gone with the separate domain, hosting mantra and our SEO is with a country specific strategy
As you know, Google seems to give precedence to websites in a searchers own country. Link building is another question as country specific directories and a number of search engines only accept listings from websites in there own country.
The above strategy is working for us as we are seeing improving positions in the search engines of targeted countries (France, Germany)
From an SEO perspective and with personal experience, I will go with the separate domain for langauges and country focused SEO strategy
I think this thread will benefit from anyone who is using a different strategy and getting results. Getting desired results is the keyword here

into account?" ...well, yes and no. It basically depends on how "local" you want to get.
Like some other people said, one option is to create localised branches and deal with each one seperately, create a strategy for it, etc etc. This is usually the best option but as you can understand it comes with higher hosting, maintenance, marketing and sales costs.
Another option is to centralise everything and then use technology to look like you are localised. This is usually preferred due to its ease of maintenance and reduced cost while still being able to market yourself locally well enough.
No matter which way you go, the main thing I would suggest is to look at the search patterns and behaviour of the country of area you are targetting. A quality translation is a good start but it won't tell you what most people in a country are searching for, in what way, where, when, and so on. This is something that is part of market or seo research. ..and the way you go about it may also differ from country to country.
Multilingual or multi-country-targetted SEO is a very exciting area, but usually it all comes down to a balance between effectiveness, cost and ease of maintenance,
