NetNames Platinum Service protects Argos' key brands online
With over 44 per cent of shoppers in Europe choosing to buy online, it is crucial that retailers take steps to ensure that their domain names are protected on an ongoing basis. This is why Argos has chosen to work with NetNames, the UK's leading domain name management company, to consolidate over 300 website addresses owned by the retail group.
Argos, the UK's largest non-food retail chain, is using NetNames Platinum Service, a corporate domain name management service used by over 250 companies, to keep all of its names within the one service. This means their crucial online assets will be continually protected from unscrupulous operators on the Internet such as cybersquatters.
NetNames Platinum Service is a sophisticated domain name protection service that is used by top retailers, banks and travel companies, as a tool to safeguard brands online. The key brands protected by Platinum Service will include Argos, Homebase and Jungle.
Ian Saltmer, ARG in-house counsel, commented: "At Argos we have registered many variations of our different brands online. We found that we had names registered with different domain name registrars and it was becoming a headache to manage them all efficiently. We have now consolidated all of our domain names under NetNames Platinum Service, which provides us one point of contact, consolidated billing and peace of mind. It also removes the administrative burden of managing many domain names year on year. The biggest benefit is that we can ensure customers looking for Argos.co.uk, or our other sites, can always find what they want."
As part of the NetNames Platinum Service offering, Argos is also using Name Alert, a NetNames service which monitors if a person or another company attempts to register any domain name based on variations of the retailers name.
Jonathan Robinson, director of business development at NetNames, said: "Increasingly companies are realising the importance and value of protecting their online brands as they would do their trademarks and patents. This approach is key for high street retailers like Argos who are becoming increasingly dependent on websites as a sales channel , as well as an information tool for customers."
