Founder Kevin Rose announced at the Future of Web Apps (FoWA) conference in London yesterday that similar announcements this year from Microsoft, Yahoo! and AOL had hastened the site's move.

Joost, the P2P internet TV service, is said to be close to securing a content deal with Viacom, the parent company of MTV and Comedy Central.
Two weeks ago, Viacom demanded the removal of 100,000 of its clips from YouTube, after failing to reach an agreement with the video sharing site over use of its content.

Web-based podcasting application Odeo has been put up for sale, just months after founder Evan Williams led a management buy-out of the project from investors.
Williams wrote: "We've put too much into Odeo to want to see it fade away. And it still has tons of potential. But we're not improving it fast enough."

The amount of traffic sent from Google to Wikipedia has shot up 166% in the last year, according to data from Hitwise.
The open encyclopedia last month broke into the US' list of top 10 websites, up four places on the previous month. Now researcher LeeAnn Prescott has revealed that 70% of Wikipedia's hits come from search queries, and 50% from Google alone.

Circulation figures released last week by ABC seem to paint a picture of decline in the men's glossy magazine market, as previously popular men's titles have seen circulations fall.
For instance, men's mag FHM, published by Emap, has seen its circulation figures fall 25.9% in the second half of 2006, to 371,263. In 1999, its figures were nearer 700,000.

A Texan inventor has launched an audacious court case against TV-shifting hardware maker Sling Media, claiming a patent infringement.
Stuart Mershon claims the Slingbox, which uses the internet to rebroadcast TV content from a user's lounge to a PC or mobile phone anywhere in the world, infringes on a system he invented to transmit home audio signals to a remote speaker over wireless telephone networks.

Research by online shopping comparison service uSwitch has predicted that online retail will almost quadruple by 2020.
The web currently accounts for around 10% of total UK retail sales, with sales over the Christmas period reaching £3.7bn, a 50% increase on 2005. The report predicts that 15% of UK retail sales this year will be online.
