With the internet becoming more prominent in today's society, I would love to get your opinion on this statement. As entrepreneurs and small businesses, do we really take advantage of this vast resource we call the internet?

Everyone benefits from the internet these days, especially the online businesses. With Google making the search engine useful for local business, you can take full advantage of this feature. Now people can search for a business where you're located. There are ways to market your online business. You need to research more about local optimization to promote your business online. I hope that helps!

Small business owners have got to be thinking of their social presence as first and foremost an extension of what’s happening in their physical locations, whether it’s a storefront of service business. If customers come in for local gossip, then tear it up online for ex. Facebook is a great place to extend your personality online so that customers existing and new feel connected.

Thanks to all of you for your input! As mentioned, the internet is an extremely powerful tool that many small businesses can use as a vehicle to drive their business forward. But it is only effective if used correctly.

As mentioned I think everybody has benefitted from the internet in one way or another.
To answer the question directly, from first hand experience in my previous life managing a portfolio of SME's, there is still a huge knowledge gap amongst many small business owners that I dealt with, not understanding or being aware of the opportunities out there regarding the web and digital marketing.
It is improving as time goes on however at this current time I think there is still far greater room for many to improve whether that be from making better use of their websites/improving SEO/being slightly more innovative in how they offer products/services.
The one major issue any small business owner constantly has is with their time and in my opinion many clients I dealt with didn't invest enough hours in to this area and sometimes the smallest of changes would have a huge benefit to their income.
On the flip side there are however a number of small businesses who do really make the most of the internet and come up with some excellent solutions/new ways to operate - I just wish more would!
