According to Google: "Users and developers interested in RSS alternatives can export their data, including their subscriptions, with Google Takeout over the course of the next four months." ... I've never used Takeout (though I'll need to soon, evidently!), but: It would be really smart for one of these RSS services to set up a few-click process whereby someone can import their Reader feeds into the service with just a few clicks.

    Excellent concept and recommendation Craig.

I've used Takeout for switching/updating my Google+ profile. Not the simplest thing in the world, as per all things Google, so I hope some of the entrepreneurs behind the above are listening to you.

You seem to have missed out the one that seems to have been the most common recommendation I have seen in the last 2 days: feedly.com

So far, Feedly is the best.

I second Mark's suggestion of www.feedly.com. It can sync with Google Reader to bring over your feeds and has some nice features and a variety of layouts.

Thanks Mark, I've added that one to the list.

I've been using Google reader for a long time now and it's a shame for it to go, great post. Thanks for the info.

While, I'm a fan of Flipboard, Plus and Feedly. Many of our clients are still on a learning curve. If they have a personal email with Yahoo I will use MyYahoo to walk them through and also show Feedly.

Perfect timing, we've used google reader for the past few years. We will have to do some additional research to see which one fits our needs but this list is a good start,

You may as well take iGoogle off your list, it's been scheduled for retirement in November.

I have Google Reader plugged into my iGoogle page. Looks like I'm seeking two replacements, now.

I have just started using bloglovin, it looks like a great replacement for the reader!

Another vote for Feedly. I just switched two days ago and I like it, plus it's free. I am not ready to pay for a RSS reader.

@Elmer - Cheers, I got a few tweets stating the same. Will update the post.

I'm looking forward to checking out Feedly this week.

Also, since this post is climbing in pageviews I'd like to call out Netvibes. Where is your iPad app guys???

Hi Ryan, I'd add Delve (delvenews.com) to your list! We're a news reader with a focus on professionals and organizations. We usually do the brunt of the news finding and sourcing for our users, but because of this recent announcement we're now letting users import all of their feeds from Google Reader!

We're free, multi-platform and have a suite of features that keep our users happy (email digests, forum/archive, social and expert curation).
