A survey released today by the Office for National Statistics shows the increasing popularity of e-commerce among businesses, with a massive rise in online sales volumes last year.
The ONS e-commerce survey, based on results from businesses with 10 or more employees, shows rapid growth both in the use of Information and Communications Technologies, and the value of trade over the internet.

Europe’s high streets could eventually be devoid of banks, travel agents and mobile phone shops as consumers turn to the web for research, according to ACNielsen.
A study by the analyst group found consumers used window-shopping less than the net when choosing their purchases, except when it came to clothing and accessories.

Auction website eBay has today launched the UK version of its new online shopping service, eBay Express. The site will sell both new and used goods at fixed prices.
All of the sellers on the site have been signed up to a professional code of conduct by eBay, to ensure that they all offer returns policies and guaranteed delivery dates.
The company hopes that the site will attract those shoppers who prefer a more more conventional e-commerce shopping experience.

Hitwise
.
The analyst group says the number of UK web searches for 'Bebo' has tripled in the past six months and risen by 17.6% in the past quarter alone.

The etailer removed the functions late last week, with a spokesperson telling the Associated Press it was "shifting its priorities to areas where it can provide the greatest benefit for customers."

has announced plans to launch a low-cost online DVD and CD store aimed at undercutting major offline and online retailers.
The electrical goods firm said it would offer around 180,000 CDs and 40,000 DVDs for purchase online, with free delivery and chart and new releases priced from £8.99 and £12.99 respectively.

BBC chairman Michael Grade has been recruited to Ocado’s board but the online grocery firm has denied it is gearing up for a stock market flotation, reports The Independent.
Starting next month, Grade will become non-executive chairman of the loss-making group, which was founded by three former Goldman Sachs bankers four years ago.
