List of UK charities on Twitter

After publishing an interview with Dog's Trust about its use of Twitter for raising awareness and fundraising, I've had quite a few contacts from charities and representatives who also use Twitter.

Following the example of PRBlogger's very useful list of UK journalists on Twitter, I've compiled one for charity organisations and others who are using the service to promote some worthy causes.

There are more charities using Twitter than I first thought, but there are a few big names I haven't found Twitter accounts for, NSPCC, Childline, RSPCA are just three that spring to mind.

Here is a list of the charities I've found on Twitter so far:

    Thanks for this great resource.

Just wanted to let you know that the national charity Action Medical Research has a twitter feed for our premature birth campaign - STAND UP for Tiny Lives.

The campaign is calling for action to tackle the more than 25 baby deaths that occur each week in the UK as a result of premature birth.

Also many of you might already be aware but if not this is brilliant - 2 days with campaigners using the internet for campaigning - http://www.fairsay.com/events/ecampaigning-forum  - I have no financial interest!

    Hi

NAVCA (National Association for Voluntary and Community Action) staff are twittering away either personally, as news feeds or to represent the organisation .... or a combination of all these.

    Me - Paul Webster - www.twitter.com/watfordgap

    Barney Mynott - Communications - www.twitter.com/barneym

    Thanks Richard,

When I started the list I though there were only a few, but it seems charities have caught on quickly, though some seem to use it better than others, and actively participate on Twitter. Dog's Trust is one good example of this, but I'm sure there are others.

I'll update the list with the last fee suggestions.

Hi Just wanted to mention something new that has been set up on Twitter to raise money for charities, without people having to actually donate themselves. Twiving raises money for charity by tweeting adverts/links that, when people click on them, earns money. This money is then given to charity. There's a few companies on Twitter that are donating some or all of any earnings they raise through advertising links to Twiving to boost it. Twiving is now actually actively looking for charities to support from 1st June 2010, so if you work or campaign for a charity get in touch with them asap. The charity that they raise money will change every month to give lots of charites exposure - and they will tweet links to the charity of the month's Twitter page. The Twitter link for Twiving is http://www.twitter.com/twiving I think it's a great idea which is why I got involved!!
