The fundamentals of today's coupon culture: infographic

Deals have always been popular, but thanks in large part to the Great Recession, many consumers have rediscovered their love for coupons.

Technology, of course, is playing an increasingly prominent role in the coupon ecosystem, but what does that really look like? How many consumers have upped their use of coupons? What digital channels are most popular for coupon-seekers? And what actions would consumers take for a 25% off coupon?

A new infographic from RedPlum and Valassis provides answers.

Its amazing how popular deal sites are but how many Consumers still recommend via word-of-mouth and e-mail. Seems a lot of people still like to print and share.

So many times the value of the printed soupon is being doubted. Well at least for the study-area it shows that printed coupons are not and will not get out of fashion! And with coupons not being made available through all print-media but selectedly, the sharing and thus the talk about a coupon, a brand, an offer or an outlet can even be optimized to a certain degree.

With portals trying to lure people into subscribtions and memberships, sharing via e-mail of mailed-in coupons will in my opinion stay ahead of any social or app-sharing because of the latter's boundaries compared to free flow of emails.

Astonishing to me the high growth rate of people willing to tweet for a discount. It would be interesting to see if this is just a function of the current economical situation or if the willingness to tweet will not diminish once incomes and the macro-economic circumstances will have stabilized.

I for one do not make a purchase online without first searching to see whether there is a voucher code available. Quite often there isn't but on the odd occassion I have saved a nice amount.

Nowadays there are lots of websites that help us save money online, whether it's a website that shows you daily deals or other voucher code websites.

Sites such as Groupon and Wowcher have increase the profile of couponing which has definitely had a surge in popularity on line. It has come in tandem with the increase in mobile usage and smartphone technology that has allowed people to take coupons with them wherever they go on their mobiles. And most importantly, it means no more cutting out vouchers from the newspaper!
