What do consumers think of social media marketing on mobile?

Stats show the massive growth in the use of smartphones to access social media, but how will consumers react to social media marketing on their mobiles

Some of the stats in this DMA infographic suggest there is some resitance to this. For example, 44% regard marketing on mobile social media as invasive, while 52% believe that ads should only be seen by fans or followers of brands.

I think that Google's comment that marketeers cannot be bothered or are scared of social media on mobiles is a poor assessment of the situation - with statistics demonstrating that the mobile platform is viewed differently by users to their laptop or work PC and a misguided approach to social marketing on mobiles could damage the relationshiop between a brand and their existing or potential customer base.

I believe the key to effective mobile and social media marketing is to focus on a specific action that you would like the prospect to take. Too many businesses try to sell their product or service directly via social media and mobile marketing. Mobile marketing allows you to be in front of your audience when they are considering engaging with you.
