Blackberry apps may not have the greatest reputation in the world, but recent updates suggest that social networks haven’t given up on the old boy just yet.
Foursquare announced on Friday that it had upgraded its Blackberry app to make it “speedier” and improved the GPS logic.
But that’s not all - notifications will now delivered into the Blackberry inbox and new NFC capabilities mean users can “share places and tips among other BlackBerry and Android devices… with a simple tap of your phone.”
The updates come shortly after Twitter rolled out Promoted Tweets to Blackberry devices following similar updates on Android and iOS.

A quarter of the British population (26%) spend more time watching on-demand TV content than traditional linear TV, according to a new study by YouGov.
The trend is most prevalent among respondents aged 18-24, with 41% of this demographic watching a majority of on-demand content compared to 15% of people aged 55 or older.
The popularity of on-demand viewing is driven in part by the increased use of connected TV devices which give viewers access to a range of online content.

It’s no secret that delivering an excellent customer experience has a positive impact on conversion rates and revenue.
Amazon is the perfect example of this. Its massive growth has been driven in no small part by its painless one-click payment system and excellent customer service.
This infographic, produced by Monetate, shows that 73% of consumers would buy again from a retailer if they had a superior customer experience, while 89% would shun a business if they had a bad experience.

Gamification isn’t a new concept. Businesses have been trying to increase engagement by introducing game mechanics into their marketing for a few years now.
One of the most obvious examples is Foursquare, which has developed its offering from a social game into a local search engine as it moves towards monetisation.
But can gamification be applied to all business models?
During a keynote at TNW 2012 Gamification CEO Gabe Zichermann suggested that companies must first understand what it is about video games that engages consumers.

Having been involved in five startups, Evernote CEO Phil Libin definitely knows what it takes to be an entrepreneur.
During a speech at TNW 2012 he revealed that 100,000 people sign up to Evernote everyday and the service is rapidly approaching 30m total users.
But while Libin suggested that technology means now is the best time in history to start a business, he listed four popular motivations for becoming an entrepreneur that will guarantee the business fails…

Brands need to learn to “close the viral loop” to encourage users to share their content, according to Facebook director of platform partnerships Christian Hernandez.
Speaking at TNW 2012 in Amsterdam, Hernandez said that, in order to properly make use of Facebook’s 500m daily users, brands must make sharing content easier.
And the way to do this is to build apps for Facebook timelines.

Connected TV ads received a click through rate of 22% during a study of eight campaigns by the Rovi Corporation.
Almost 70% of users exposed to the smart TV campaigns noticed the ads, achieving a 6% incremental reach in addition to traditional media channels.
The study evaluated UK connected TV audience segments, platform familiarity and usage, as well as advertising effectiveness and engagement.
