Heather is a writer and filmmaker who covers media and communications, tech, ecommerce and the arts and was listed by Brand Republic as one of the top 200 most influential bloggers in 2011. She is currently editorial director of Econsultancy in New York.
Prior to her move to Econsultancy, Heather was acting editor of About the BBC, the BBC corporate blog and website, and managed online corporate reputation for the BBC. Previous roles included social media manger for PayPal UK and social media/ PR manager for Groundswell award winner, giffgaff.
Heather speaks at events on social media, marketing, community and filmmaking - previous speaking engagements include talks at ComicCon, Reputation Online Live, Technology for Marketing and Advertising, PR Week, European Customer Experience World, Social Media in Business, Media Camp London, and Digital Surrey. Facebook has announced it's partnership with US Today to create the Super Bowl Ad Meter app.
Facebook users can rate Super Bowl ads as they watch the game and then share and discuss the commercials with their friends. This will take what US Today have been doing since 1989 with a select panel of viewers and move it into social networks.
But this type of ad tracking in social media isn't a new one. It's been going on over on Twitter since 2009 with Brandbowl.

Google, PayPal, Facebook, Yahoo and Microsoft, alongside 10 other leading email, security and financial providers, have formed the technical working group, DMARC, in order to reduce email phishing and spam.
The DMARC, Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance, will create internet standards to improve email senders' authentication practices.

Since businesses discovered the revenue potential of fans and followers, they have been clamouring to acquire them. But what gives greater value? Those you acquire through good social media strategy and engaging content, or those you buy.
Another fan buying enterprise, Bird Bird Fans, has recently launched its service of buying high volumes of fans to boost the Facebook pages of small and medium sized businesses (SMBs) new to the market.

Last week Gnip, the leading provider of social media data for enterprise applications, announced its partnership with Automattic to bring comments and blogs on the WordPress platform into its already powerful data stream.
For four years, Gnip has been the company behind the elusive social data stream businesses are hungry for. Though you may not be familiar with the name, Gnip provide data to eight of the nine largest social media monitoring firms such as Radian6.

President Barack Obama will be the first president to use Google Plus Hangouts
to chat with voters in a 45 minute open forum after his State of the
Union address tomorrow.
During the session, Obama will answer questions submitted to YouTube,
echoing his YouTube town halls of the past, as well as chat live with a
select group of questioners.

to capitalize on where audiences spend most of their time online instead
of expecting potential customers to come to them.
By adding targeted display marketing into the mix, marketers can increase brand recall by 6% and boost form conversion rates by 30%.
