Yesterday our CEO Ashley Friedlein finally did the honourable thing and bought an iPhone. Already his world has measurably improved.
We asked our Twitter followers to suggest the apps that he should download. In particular we wanted ideas on apps relating to productivity, workflow, as well as the internet industry more broadly. Some are more boss-like than others, but they're all great apps.

QR codes are smart barcodes that have a lot of potential to bridge the gap between online and offline marketing.
QR codes are image-based links to information. QR stands for ‘quick response’... instead of remembering and typing a URL / phone number you just take a picture of a QR code, and it does the rest.
In a nut, here’s how it works:
- You create a code (an image).
- Someone takes a picture of it on a smartphone.
- The code is deciphered via a QR reader.
- It becomes a link to provide the viewer with information.

Hot on the heels of its new mobile website, The Independent has released an iPhone news app this week.
The Independent iPhone app is a departure from some other newspaper apps, as it is designed to allows readers to download all the articles while they have a decent 3G or wi-fi connection, and saves them for reading while offline.

Facebook, which just announced that it had reached the 250m user mark, continues in its quest to build a sustainable business. Currently, Facebook's self-serve PPC ad platform accounts for the largest share of the company's revenue.
In an effort to grow that chunk of revenue, Facebook is adding on to its self-serve ad platform to meet the needs of developers and I think this could open up a potential arbitrage opportunity for savvy developers.

It's currently covering just the Queens area of New York, but Burger King has started to trial a mobile commerce app for the iPhone, as a way of maximising orders.
Customers can use the app to order and pay for their meals and skip queues at their local Burger King. I've been pretending to be in Queens so I can try the app out....

Sky News launched an iPhone app this week, which provides the latest headlines, as well as encouraging users to send in their own reports and images.
The app, which is currently top of the free download charts in the App Store, also has a strong focus on video content. I've been seeing how it compares to rival ITN's version.

A big chunk of the 'Facebook economy' doesn't belong to Facebook: it belongs to individuals and companies who have built Facebook applications.
By some accounts, the revenue generated from these apps will surpass Facebook's own revenue this year. So it's no surprise that Facebook is looking to do more to take direct advantage of the ecosystem it's built.

Speaking at a conference today, Twitter co-founder Biz Stone told the audience not to expect to see ads anytime soon on the popular microblogging platform.
"There are a few reasons why we're not pursuing advertising--one is,
it's just not quite as interesting to us." Stone said.
