From January 2007, unique users will replace page impressions as ABC Electronic's mandatory measurement metric, according to a new ruling from JICWEBS.
Page impressions are easy to manipulate and don’t necessarily give a true idea of a site’s popularity. For example, figures can be manipulated by splitting content over several pages, forcing the visitor to read a number of pages per story. Some of the biggest online publishers do this.

CNBC yesterday unveiled its all new website, after ending its five-year licensing agreement with MSN Money. The site has many new features, with a range of video clips and market updates.
The site features a the usual array of video clips, including market news to extended interviews with business leaders. CNBC.com will show up to eight hours of live video each day, and already has around 15,000 videos for on-demand use.

BT is close to a major content deal with Warner Brothers in advance of the launch of its combined television and broadband service, BT Vision.
The deal will allow users of BT Vision to access the Hollywood studio giant’s catalogue of movies and TV shows.

It seems that internet usage across Europe is continuing to rise, with a European Interactive Advertising Association survey revealing that time spent on the internet has increased since last year.
The EIAA Mediascope Survey interviewed over 7,000 people in 10 mainly Western European countries. As well as time spent online, the report revealed an increase in broadband use and the rise of social networks.

The IMRG has predicted that the UK online sales boom will continue through Christmas into next year, with the internet driving sales of up to £42 billion in 2007, up from about £30 billion this year.
The prediction comes in the wake of the biggest ever month for online retail sales. A record £2.7 billion was spent online last month by UK shoppers, beating the record set last December.

More than 50% of households in the 25 EU countries now have access to the web, according to a new report.
The survey was carried out by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the EU, and the findings confirm the growth of broadband connections. The data is from the first quarter of 2006.

Despite falling broadband prices, customers' satisfaction with their broadband service providers has fallen by 9% over the last year.
In a YouGov survey of more than 11,000 broadband customers, conducted for uSwitch, Orange and TalkTalk were both rated bottom for the services they offered, even though both launched ‘free broadband’ packages this year.

Marissa Mayer, Google's vice president for search products and user experience, has revealed an interesting experiment carried out by the search engine a few years ago.
The goal of the experiment was to determine the ideal number of results to display in response to a search query. Google surveyed its users, who decided 30 results on a page would be best, rather than 10 or 20.
