Touts on eBay have been thwarted in their attempts to make a quick buck from people desperately searching for the new Playstation 3, as plenty of the games consoles are available to buy through regular channels.
Based on launches of previous gaming devices, like the PSP and Xbox, touts expected that the demand for Sony’s new machine would soon mean that shops would run out of stock and gamers would turn to eBay.

eBay’s online payment outfit, Paypal has announced it has registered almost 35m accounts in Europe - a boost in its battle with rival providers.
It’s the first time the group has released specific numbers for Europe, where it says it processed $8.4bn (£4.3bn) in payments last year.

With the high levels of online fraud, the police are unable to investigate every complaint they receive about instances of online crime and, in some cases they are unable to investigate.
Cases where individuals have been defrauded to the amount of a few hundred pounds are being pushed to the back of the queue, as police do not have the resources to cope with the problem.

eBay is partnering with Bebo to allow users of the social networking site to list auction items on their profiles.
The agreement will allow Bebo's 30m members to detail items they want to buy or sell. Clicking the link will take visitors directly to eBay's own pages, the Wall Street Journal said.

Several big brands including Orange, B&Q and 3 seem to have been underperforming on eBay recently, posing questions about the effectiveness of their stores on the auctioning site.
The companies have been using eBay to sell surplus or reconditioned stock - items that can no longer be sold to high street customers but have huge appeal to bargain hunters.

Customer satisfaction with e-commerce sites improved for the second year in a row, according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) released by the University of Michigan.
Online retail achieved a score of 83 on ACSI's 100 point scale, while offline retailers scored 74.4. The survey was carried out in conjunction with ForeSee Results.

Former Skype VP of marketing and Video Island founder Saul Klein has joined Index Ventures to help the VC firm’s hunt for new web investments.
The London-based company has just announced the closure of a EU350m fund – its fourth - to focus on European firms in IT, life sciences and clean tech.
Klein, who will be based in Index’s London office, will help spend the new cashpile as well as working on Index’s existing portfolio, which includes the likes of Betfair, Netvibes and Last.fm.

EverQuest
and
World of Warcraft
on its site.
All listings related to these virtual goods, which include currency, characters, weapons, and online game accounts are being removed by eBay due to legal concerns.

Online auction giant eBay enjoyed a good Christmas period, particularly in the UK and Germany, as fourth quarter earnings turned out to be higher than expected.
A rush to buy hard to find games consoles like the Wii and PS3 was one of the reasons given for the success, as total revenue for the last three months of 2006 reached $1.7bn, a 29% rise on the same period a year earlier.
