Viacom, the parent company of MTV and Comedy Central, has requested YouTube to remove 100,000 clips of its programming.
Viacom had been negotiating with Google over a deal that would allow the clips to be shown on YouTube in return for a share of ad revenues, but pulled out of talks after failing to reach an agreement.

According to figures from US-based firm ClickForensics, click fraud is continuing to rise, reaching 14.2% in the last quarter of 2006, the highest level all year.
Q4 numbers from the Click Fraud Index suggest that the overall industry average click fraud rate was 14.2%, compared with 13.8% for the third quarter, 14.1% for the second and 13.7% for the first.

Three-quarters of YouTube viewers would visit the site less often if the video behemoth placed ads before clips, according to a poll.
YouTube founder Chad Hurley, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos last week, told BBC News the site was mulling placing three-second commercials ahead of uploaded videos and sharing the revenue with producers.

A video purporting to show users how to become a tester for a forthcoming TV service to be launched by Google has split the web over claims it is a hoax.
A clip posted to YouTube by tech tutorial channel Infinite Solutions on Friday told viewers they could access high-quality US network TV shows as part of a private test by repeatedly logging in and out of Gmail.

Google has made some alterations to its algorithm in order to reduce the effect of 'Google bombing'. This means that a search for 'miserable failure' will no longer lead to President Bush's homepage at The White House.
However, the change has not dealt with all these Google bombs. For instance, a search for 'French military victories' on Google will still return spoof pages for the first three results.

One of the questions we asked in the UK Affiliate Census (published this week) was whether or not respondents believed that 'Google was damaging the affiliate marketing industry'.
A third of affiliates (34%) agreed with this statement compared to 26% who disagreed.

Reports suggest that the BBC is negotiating with Google over a deal which would see the corporation's content being shown on Google Video and YouTube.
It is believed that the BBC is interested in promoting its programming via YouTube and Google Video, in a deal similar to those with major US broadcasters, including CBS, where content is promoted on the video sharing sites via branded channels.

Google plans to extend its online advertising network to offline billboard ads, according to reports of a new patent filing.
The search leader would allow retailers to buy space on local interactive ad hoardings that would display corresponding ads when the advertiser has items in stock.

JP Morgan has released a study which shows that Paypal is still seven times more popular than Google’s rival system, Checkout.
Google Checkout launched last year with an aggressive challenge to PayPal, although it has encountered resistance from etailers that are reluctant to cede ownership of customers to the search giant.
