Web start-up AdBrite will be offering a new auction system for online brand advertising in a bid to steal some of the market from bigger players.
The new auction system, AdBrite 2.0, will see the company selling advertising space across its network of 28,000 sites to the highest bidder, while allowing smaller advertisers and websites to get into the display ad market.

Google is planning another foray into the offline advertising market by extending its AdWords system to print media.
The search giant has invited 100 advertisers to test out the Print Ads service, which will initially broker space in newspapers in the US.

Is YouTube really a Web 2.0 site? A pointless question, you might think, especially when its founders have just sold the site for $1.65bn.
But not according to a recent blog by Lawrence Lessig, which seems to have sparked off a weird political row over sites that allow users to share content online.

An American tubes and pipes manufacturer whose website is registered at utube.com is suing YouTube after being deluged with traffic from millions of users mistakenly seeking the video sharing network.
Universal Tube and Rollform Equipment Corporation said the cost of hosting utube.com had skyrocketed in the last couple of months thanks to the word-of-mouth popularity of youtube.com.

Channel 4 has issued a warning that Google is set to overtake them in terms of advertising revenue this year.
The search engine is set to earn £900 million in advertising revenues for the UK market, which will top the predicted Channel 4 figure of around £800 million.

Zoomf.com, a property search engine backed by UK tech start-up
Arclight Media Technology
, is planning to go live early next year.
Currently in beta, Zoomf is aiming to officially launch in Q1 2007, offering property listings in London before expanding its coverage to the rest of the UK and abroad.

Google has today acquired Jotspot, a three year old California-based company which develops platforms for building wiki-based applications.
Wikis, popularised by the online encyclopedia Wikipedia, are platforms for user-generated content. Users can create, modify and even delete information, to build up pages, in a structured format.

Ellen Siminoff is the CEO of search advertising agency Efficient Frontier, having previously been part of the founding executive team at Yahoo!
Efficient Frontier applies mathematical models developed on Wall Street to calculate the best keyword prices and positioning advertisers should go for, and now manages over $250m in media spend.

Tough guidelines issued by Google to those who persist in using the company's name as a verb have provoked an angry reaction from users.
The search giant first got riled by the passing of its brand into common lexicon back in 2003, when it issued Word Spy proprietor Paul McFedries with a cease-and-desist letter commanding his removal of the word "google" from his site.
