65% of revenue in Apple's App Store comes via in app purchase (IAP). This system is a fantastic way to monetise your apps which provides a slick experience for both the user and the provider.
However, it is not as straight forward as you might hope.
There are one or two ambiguities to watch out for.
Based on my experiences developing an iPad app, here are some things to watch out for...

The rise of the tablet is one of the biggest trends in computing today and there's little reason to doubt that this trend won't get anything but stronger.
The new iPad smashed sales records, affordable tablets with rich content ecosystems like the Kindle Fire are helping bring these devices to the masses, and Intel is promising a slew of new tablets when Windows 8 is released later this year.

On the surface, there's nothing 'revolutionary' about Apple's new iPad. Yes, the Retina display is impressive, and there are a number of changes that Apple believes make it the best tablet yet. None of this means, however, that the new iPad is moving the tablet market forward by leaps and bounds.
But that might not matter when it comes to how successful the new iPad becomes.

A modified version of Google's Android OS powers Amazon's popular Kindle Fire tablet, but being able to take some credit for the Fire's OS apparently isn't enough for the search giant.
Google reportedly believes that it needs a tablet of its own and it could start a fierce battle with Amazon as early as May when it releases an inexpensive 7-inch tablet to take on the Kindle Fire.

Domino’s has announced that it took over £1m in sales through its mobile platform in a single week in Q1 2012.
In total e-commerce sales accounted for 50.6% of UK sales in the 13 week period up to March 25 2012, up 44.5% year-on-year to £59.3m.
Mobile payments made up 16.4% of total online sales, a slight increase on reports last month that the pizza company took 13% of digital sales through a tablet or smartphone.
Domino’s investment in its mobile platform certainly appears to be paying off – in September we reported that it had generated £10m of sales through its iPhone app in eight months and gave its new iPad app a glowing review.

Square, the mobile payment upstart that's combined a credit card-reading dongle with the iPhone and iPad to take on established point-of-sale (POS) payment solutions providers, has been making frequent appearances in the news of late.
From attracting users like the Obama campaign and taxi drivers in New York City to overhauling its mobile app in an effort to drive consumers to local businesses, it appears that Square's $4bn-plus in annual payments processed could be just the tip of the iceberg.

With tablet devices playing a larger and larger role in the world of consumer computing, it's no surprise that Microsoft has high hopes for its ability to compete in the tablet space. But right now there's one big problem: it doesn't have a tablet OS.
That will change with the release of Windows 8, an OS that has been designed for touch and which may contain the biggest changes to Windows since the company's flagship product was released in 1985.

On Tuesday I received a message from a friend pointing me to an item within Tesco Direct’s website. I clicked the link and was welcomed with a 64GB iPad 3 costing only £49.99.
The person who messaged me had just completed his order and showed me the confirmation email. With that, I set off to buy two (why not?).
Within three minutes the website was down (I was on the delivery stage of the order). 20 minutes after that the site was back up and I could not proceed. I was so annoyed! I could have bought two iPads for £99.98!
An hour later the BBC had already published the story.
Please note: this is purely conspiracy theory, I am not actually accusing Tesco but merely observing a possibility...

It remains to be seen whether tablets are the future of publishing or not, but one thing is undeniable - they will be an increasingly important part of the publishing landscap
So it's no surprise that major publishers like Conde Nast have been investing heavily in making sure their publications are available on devices like the iPad.

Today, Apple thoroughly dominates the tablet space, and a couple of other pseudo-competitors (Amazon and Barnes & Noble) arguably are successfully extending the tablet market by targeting individuals who aren't as likely to buy an iPad.
Put another way: despite the efforts of companies like RIM and Samsung, only one non-content-oriented device maker sells a ton of tablets.
