Consumer behaviour is driving multichannel growth and if retailers want to stay in touch with their customers they must adapt now.
Let's face it, multichannel is here, and the majority of customers use several channels before they buy (around 86% apparently, according to a recent study by Leo Burnett).
So, whatever you do as a retailer, if you're not in the multichannel game, then you're not planning to be in retail for the long run, as your customers already are.

Recent statistics have proved what we all know: the mobile consumer is rising. In 2010 smartphone purchases increased by 72.1% and a week doesn’t go by when we hear of retailers launching mobile commerce sites or mobile initiatives revealed.
It seems there is consumer demand for mobile services but understanding the mobile consumer psyche is confusing.

For those of you who missed it (and with 20,000 people registering for it I’m not sure who that may be) Hubspot’s Dan Zarrella’s “The Science of Email Marketing” was a reminder that testing and optimization are a core best practice which will ultimately drive the success of any email initiative.
Not that the webinar was focused on testing. Instead, takeaways were presented with the caveat “this may or may not be the case for you” ... which is another way of saying “test it and see what happens.”

73% of companies are planning an investment in mobile channels in 2011, with almost half planning to move into mobile commerce.
Econsultancy's Customer Engagement Report, which we produced in association with cScape, has some interesting findings on companies' use of mobile.
It seems that, as well as losing their fear of social media, more firms are coming round to the value of mobile.

Online travel agency ebookers.com launched a mobile website this week, which allows customers to browse and book flights and hotels from their phones.
The company claims to be the first online travel firm to offer this functionality via mobile (and I can't think of any others), but does ebookers provide a good user experience on mobile?

While mobile commerce remains a minority activity, it is experiencing strong growth, with 8% of online shoppers making a purchase from their phones this Christmas, up from just 2% last year.
This statistic comes from a survey of 10,000 shoppers by ForeSee Results, which also looks at popular mobile activities, and how customers rate mobile user experience.
