It seems like every few months, somebody has to write a blog post
calling SEO a 'scam' of some sort. It's a meme that always works and
this time around, it's coming from a guy named Derek Powazek, who calls
SEOs "spammers, evildoers, and opportunists".
It's a great linkbait, which, ironically, is sure to help Powazek's SERPs.

To many, the word 'community' elicits thoughts of social networks like MySpace and Facebook, and of popular social media websites like Flickr and Digg. But if you were active on the internet about a decade ago, you probably don't forget the precursor to today's social communities: the message board/forum.
They're still around (there are quite a few massive ones) and while they may not be as sexy as today's social networks, a Google update that will make it easier for searchers to find content posted in message board communities is likely going to benefit many operators of message board communities.

The idea that exact-match keyword domain names can be a significant ranking factor is not new. But, for me at least, the significance has always been hard to confirm for a few simple reasons.
First, it's not every day that I acquire an exact-match keyword domain for a popular search phrase. In my post earlier this week about Google Caffeine, I made the observation that certain Facebook Pages seemed to have received quite a rankings boost. I also noted some comments about Twitter pages receiving a boost as well.
As more and more people give Caffeine a whirl, the increased prominence of results from the social media sphere appears to be a widespread phenomenon.

When Google updates, SEOs around the world hold their breath. For websites that rely heavily on their Google SERPs for traffic, an algorithm change can sometimes mean the difference between profitability and the poorhouse.
Google's newest update, named Caffeine, is by all appearances more than just a regular update. Google describes it as a "next-generation architecture for Google's web search".

There has been some discussion lately on Twitter and elsewhere, about Google's UK SERPS being 'broken', with some anomalous results appearing, and non-UK sites ranking higher than they perhaps ought to for some search terms.
I've been asking the opinions of a few SEO agencies on the issue, and the consensus is that there are some issues here that Google needs to look at...

As a search engine optimisation (SEO) professional, I naturally believe the best way to secure good placement in the search engine results pages (SERPs) is to invest in the services of a good SEO agency. However, that does not mean there are not a number of steps a company can take on its own.
What can a company do by itself to help it rise in the results? Here
are some simple SEO strategies you may wish to employ as a starting
point for your site...

Over the years, I've worked with many clients of all sizes and shapes. Many have been businesses that need help with their internet presence and ongoing internet strategy.
When the discussion turns to SEO, one of the most common misperceptions many clients have is that SEO is a destination; that you can do a few things and you'll reach the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
