Lijit nets funding for blog search widget

Lijit has has received $3.3m (£1.65m) in Series B funding for its blog search and stats tools. The round was led by Boulder Ventures and brings the total raised by the firm to $4.2m (£2.1m).

Widget use growing, says comScore

Just over a fifth of global internet users are now using widgets, but Europe is lagging behind North America in their adoption, according to new figures.

Web measurement firm comScore’s new ‘Widget Metrix’ reveals that 21% of internet users viewed one in April.

Apple looks to tap Bebo for music downloads

Apple is looking to tap into social networking sites as an e-commerce channel after striking a deal to distribute music with Bebo.

From today, Apple’s iTunes service will be embedded into the Bebo website – allowing its users to buy music from artists that have a Bebo profile and whose music is available via iTunes.

US online shopping gateway Mpire has launched a number of widgets designed to generate revenue for Amazon and eBay affiliates.

The widgets, when displayed on a user's web page, chart trends across a range of retail product categories, each allowing site visitors to make a purchase that is linked to a publisher's affiliate account.

eBay has launched a Flash widget applet that allows sellers to embed their auctions on sites around the web.

The auction site has billed the move as "a fun and easy way for you to share the interesting things you've discovered on eBay and personalise your blog, social networking page or website".

AdMob seeks distribution with WordPress plugin

Mobile advertising network AdMob is trying to prise a route into the mobile blog ad space, having released a plugin that converts WordPress blogs for mobile devices.

dotMobi developer Andy Moore wrote a WordPress extension that converts posts written in the popular blog platform to display styles suitable for phones and PDAs.
