Education and Qualifications
A graduate of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, Colona began her career in public relations at the Financial Relations Board (FRB) in the media department supporting a variety of publicly traded companies in their efforts to gain visiblity among the financial trade press. After being recruited by the American Business Press (ABP), the leading trade association for business-to-business publishers (now called the American Business Media (ABM), Colona developed programming and managed operations for regional conferences for business to business publishers on the east coast.
After her departure from ABP in 1998, Colona joined the professional audio and broadcast industry, holding posts at Long Island-based public relations and marketing agency, D. Pagan Communications and the Audio Engineering Society. During this time she worked with leading recording engineers and producers including Daniel Lanois, Mark Howard and Chrissie Hynde on a variety of public relations projects in support of professional audio manufacturers and enjoyed being part of the recording industry as it made history with its shift from analog to digital recording.
In her role as Director of Media Relations and Corporate Communications at the Direct Marketing Association (DMA), Colona was responsible for executive communications and public relations efforts for the each of the Associations’ five business units and fourteen Councils, as well as public and regulatory affairs initiatives.
While serving as the Director of Public Relations at online video ad network startup, Vibrant Media, Colona raised the profile and awareness of the company by spearheading its participation in leading industry events including the ever-exclusive iMedia Summits, OMMA Shows, IAB events, Advertising Week and an array of cross vertical events in the financial services, retail and pharmaceutical markets. As a result of her efforts, the company also appeared regularly in leading trade and business publications.
