Sam Tilston has worked at the leading edge of the Internet since its fledgling days and at how to maximize its commercial potential.
In 1997 he developed theBackpacker.net, one of the early sites to create an online community by encouraging unfettered reader contributions. Aimed squarely at young backpackers he encouraged hostels all over the world to enter their details and encouraged readers to review and rank them. There was also the very popular 'Beer Index' that encouraged backpackers to share their views on their main activity, the quality or otherwise of beers all over the world.
He sold that site and moved to work on several high profile sites at a time when corporate London was discovering the virtues of the Net, including News Corporation's Page3.com, an early forerunner of ebay called iantique and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
PWC eventually hired him to work exclusively as the project manager developing its new EBFonline site. This groundbreaking site aimed at facilitating collaboration between leading European management academics and consultants at a time of the integration of EU markets, and presenting the results coherently to its wide range of corporate clients and paying subscribers. The complex architecture of the site required high level security and authentication and a user friendly interface across cultures.
Most recently he has been working on private network sites operating the latest technology to deliver exclusive multimedia content to clients. In particular he is working with leading edge software that enables seamless delivery of on-demand video. He has also worked extensively on cost-effective site marketing.
He is a project manager who has developed a finely honed eye for applying the latest technologies on the web combined with a relentless focus on cost effective marketing and profitability. He has a degree in marketing from the University of Birmingham
