Hi,
I have just been speaking to our SEO agency about linking and have discovered that they have a 3 way linking strategy. Having done a bit of general research I can see that there are some very mixed opinions about whether this is a good or bad thing. Also should I be concerned that they will not provide information about their sites that they use for this purpose?
Any feedback appreciated!

Generally, I would be wary of any agency that isn't completely transparent about what they are doing.
Remember any work they do is on your dime, and so they have you to report to, they should have provided a rationale for the work, a set of objectives and working practises. If they are unwilling to disclose how they are linkbuilding, then you are, quite rightly, going to assume it's being done in an underhand & risky manner.
There are plenty of knowledgeable, transparent and ethical SEO companies on econsultancy, so I would recommend getting in touch with a few of them.

Thanks Matt,
That was my feeling! The whole area of 3 way linking seems to be a very grey area which would suggest its worth staying away from it!
If anyone does have an opinion on 3 way linking I would love to hear your views!
Thanks
Charlotte.

Hi Charlotte,
3 way links building is a topic that worth of long discussion. I, myself is SEO consultant and personally support 3-way links building. I also discussed same things in my network (seo authors and consultants) and would like to share outcome with you.
normally, SEO authors advice 3 don't prefer to go with 3-way link building with forced practices otherwise its most efficient techniques for traffic, SERP, Google Pagerank and frequent crawling. If a SEO agency fix link under certain quality parameters than you will be benefited a lot, for sure. Parameters are not as difficult to complete as people think, they are different c-class IP, indexed pages, last caching under a month, good alexa, no link farm, relevancy, OBL less than 80 etc...
so, i would recommend 3-way link building to you, if your vendor gives links according to these parameters.
Please feel free to get me for any query related to Internet Marketing

They can work but some evidence suggests that Google can pick them up (thereby rendering them less useful), there are IMHO better/easier ways to build higher value links than you will get fro this activity.

Hi,
Smartly done 3 - way Link Building brings in a lot of traffic into your website. When links are placed in a site that is discussing the kind of products you deal with, the link will naturally bring in targeted traffic. It has been observed that the return on investment is very high with SEO Off Page Services. A good company can be very convincing with the comments and replies in forums or on reviews and this can make a big difference to your business.

Hi Charlotte,
Any professional agency should be entirely transparent about what they are doing.
Most people engaging in 3 way link exchanges are doing it with the express intent to manipulate search results, however there are of course legitimate cases to do this.
We have posted some useful articles on link buiding over the past few months, here is a good example:

I hope this helps.

Hi...
due to force/artificial nature of 3-way link building , SEO's used to go for other submissions techniques like: directory submissions, bookmarking, articles, online press release etc; these are also effective and cost sensitive, but if you want hike in Google PageRank or good jump in search engine ranking with your keywords than you have to go for 3-way link building.
If you are currently occupying position with your keyword in google; say "x" than with submissions, you may move to x-1 or x+1 but for top pages link building is necessary.
one more thing is, result from Link Building is depend on selection of right approach at right time with right quantity. Link Building is not a process while it is bunch of techniques if you use them smartly than success is for sure. I, myself, operating with over 30 link building techniques and my clients are getting their objective achieved. am happy with that.
