Hi all I have what I hope is an easy question: 1. We have approx. 25 products that are all the same apart from the number of users, split into bands eg: 1-5, 6-10 etc. That's the only difference.
2. The way our ecommerce server works means we have to have a page of copy for each product. Approx. 150-200 words.
3. Adding these new pages will approx. double our product catalogue.
Question is: If we use the same copy for each product apart from the banding, will this be seen as spamming by google etc?
I've been looking around the web and can't seem to find a definitive answer. All help gratefully received.
You should see this as an opportunity to add 25 additional pages of highly tuned SEO copy . . . take the time to make the descriptions unique with varying target keywords and you'll have 25 little long-tail monsters doing the organic dance for you. (Yes - I've just got back from lunch and feel a bit loopy)
I agree with Simon, this is an opportunity. If yo would like to post a link to your site to give an idea of what you are selling I would happy to give my opinion.

In a word - yes. It would be considered "duplicate content" and your pages would be marked down by Google as result. Check out this info page: http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=66359
