The short
answer to this is yes it can, quite dramatically.
As with
most marketing activity there are quite a few factors to take into
consideration such as keywords used, frequency of activity & forum site
selection.
We found we
can rank high up of the Google home page within an incredibly short time period
for our clients across a variety of industry sectors by using a selection of social
media marketing activities.
Such as spamming forums with duplicate posts? Come on Joel, surely copy and pasting from one forum to another isn't going to help your search results once spotted by moderators? I agree with your sentiments but we normally just delete duplicate posts...
What works, when it comes down to it, is adding 'the social media agency' as a link in your posts. It's admittedly a great choice for a company strapline, but the execution here feels a bit grey hat...
