If anyone can help, it is amazing how much a snippet of information can make a difference.
Basically i have one month before i need to go back to the uk and start hog roasting.i am in Bahrain where i only have pay as you go dial up which is very expensive so i have to limit my time on line which doesnt help.
My goal is to be able to put "hog roast lancashire' into a google search and find myself on page one, without paying the expensive google add stuff, at the moment i am on page 3 after a load of crap sites that arent even trying to get hog roasts promoted .
so
1) i am now convinced that i need to move from free parking to a new host based in the U.K.
2) i believe i can a) reregistrar my current domain name which takes 8-10 days
b) DNS transfer 24- 48 hrs
3) i need a host that avoids frame masking
4) my site (which rightly or wrongly, i really like the simplicity of its appearance) built on tripod, i have been told does not offer DNS management so i cant Point an A record to it ( what ever that means) i will have to use 'url forwarding'.
5)Therefore i guess i can
a)stay registered at freeparking, point to a new host and
i)build a new site with new host
ii)point them to tripod
b)re registrar domain name with new host, then
i) build new site with new host
ii)point them to tripod
c)get a new domain name maybe www.hogroastlancsco.uk (therefore i can just keep the old one running till i no longer need it) at a new host and point them to tripod
d) get a new domain name at a new host and build a new site with them,(i believe this might cost around 5 pounds a month)
which do you think a) b) c) or d)?i would be extremely grateful if you can help, thanks Andrew
I understand your dilema. It's not easy getting a free-parked site to feature in the top rankings of a google search and usually it also involves a degree of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) which is all down to the site description, keywords and content layout, not to mention link-throughs.
What I would recommend is registering the name you want. It appears www.hogroastlancsco.uk is available.
Then I would source some hosting space and move your web pages to this.
You don't need to touch any DNS info. unless you are transferring the DNS detail of an existing domain name. You cannot do this with Tripod in the way you want.
Just so you know, my company can offer you all the above and can have it set up in a couple of days, all for £229.13 incl. VAT.
That includes 100MB of hosting (1yr), an email address @ your domain (1yr), a .co.uk domain name for 2 years and the set-up cost to point the domain to the hosting space (one off).
Please contact me at if interested.
Regards,
Grant.
