Has anyone any experience of getting e-mails/e-news through black spider software? On behalf of my client, I use a specialist e-mail marketing firm. However, I have not been able to satisfactorily test the proposed first email to my client as his black spider software re-renders parts of the email. As some of the proposed recipients of the email may also have black spider software, he is not comfortable about sending it.
Is black spider software common?
Could it be that it doesn't like a panel within the email which is white on black? This is the part which keeps re-rendering.
The e-mail marketing firm that I use suggest it is an industry problem? Is it or is it just theirs?
Black spider is a pretty common bit of filtering software, mainly used in smaller companies.
It's unlikely that it is re-rendering your message just because of the way you have formated your message. It is more likely that there is a term or URL which it doesn't like. Also have you checked it isn't an email client issue? The new version of Outlook is pretty harsh when it comes to coding standards so worth checking that out.
Black Spider, like most filtering software references 3rd parties to make its decisions, one of them is Spam Assassins - most ESP's also reference spam assassins prior to sending out your message.
If yours doesn't you can easily do a check online just found this company who say it is free to check messages with them http://www.mailingcheck.com/
Once you can confirm that there are no Spam indicators within your email you should then look to your provider, it may be that their domain or IP is listed somewhere as a source of SPAM and this is causing an issue - again plenty of online resources for checking the reputation of an IP/Domain. www.dnsstuff.com is a good one - you get 5 or so free checks before they charge you.
Doing the above checks should get you to the reason you are being filtered, if you need some more advice feel free to mail me

I've come across Blackspider in the past and they have a good reputation for effectively cleaning mail. their service is effectively the same as message labs and countless other hosted solutions.
My understanding of how they work is that they either allow the message to pass or they don't. At least that's how it used to work!
So either you message is getting past or it's not. I agree with Marc that this sounds more like an email client issue. Maybe try sending the same message without the design but still with all the links then one with the design, but with no links? This should help you focus on what is causing the issue.
